Madhavi Sagar Modwekar – Small efforts can make a difference in others life

Madhavi Sagar Modwekar is a 30 years old resident of Hinjewadi, Pune, It is popular hub in Pune. She lives with husband, and in laws, both are aged and above sixty years of age. Madhavi is a housekeeper in a society near Hinjewadi and her husband is a construction worker around Bhumkar Chowk. Both their incomes are not sufficient enough to meet the needs of the family. During first lockdown they moved to their village in Beed district. In end of November, 2020 they migrated to Hinjewadi as work started slowly but again in second lockdown they stuck here due to financial crisis.

However, the spread of the pandemic and lockdown imposed changed lives of Madhavi and her family. Madhavi lost her job as a housekeeper was no longer allowed in society being a containment zone was specially under restrictions. Her husband also lost his job . “Due to lockdown we have no work to do, we are construction workers we don’t have daily work it depends upon the market, and due to this lockdown we are banned to come on Naka for finding work ” says Sagar as he shares his ordeal of the lockdown and its impact on the family. Construction worker who depend on daily wages were particularly hit by the lockdown and housekeepers like Madhavi were no longer welcomed in the societies making it difficult for the family to make its ends meet.

During the last three months the family survived by taking loans and support from local organizations and that did not mitigate the situation. Her husband is now searching for job again. We assured them that CYDA Migrant team will help to get they work stared as soon as possible.
